I had a loved-one get admitted into a psychiatric ward last year due to hearing voices, feeling like his body was shaking (even though visibly it wasn't), unable to rest, feeling crazy, thinking his body was melting, inability to speak, extreme depression and anxiety, and attempted suicide. The solution for all of this, as recommended by the doctors, was very intense medications. The drugs numbed my loved-one's ability to think; he turned into a living mush pile. He was able to walk around a bit and eat, but was incapable of much else.
Once the drugs worked, the hospital released him 1 month later stating he was fine now and they really needed his bed as there was a very long waiting list to get into the psychiatric ward, even though he was incapable of anything due to the drugs.
After being at home for two weeks, his symptoms worsened and was readmitted into another hospital's psychiatric ward. Again, after 1 month of readjusting his medications to other very intense drugs, he was released as the hospital advised they needed his bed for the other people on the waiting list for the psychiatric ward.
I learned from one nurse that all of the hospitals in my very large city were filled past capacity in the psychiatric wards and all of them had long waiting lists, which was not normal. The nurse advised that over the past couple years, they could easily notice more and more people requiring hospitalization, and the past year it had gotten to the point where they couldn't handle the volume anymore.
During both of these hospitalizations in different hospitals, I visited my loved-one almost every day. I watched all of the other patients as I knew something was odd... how could all of these people be requiring hospitalization all of a sudden? Our economy was getting better, there had not been any natural disasters or wars that would affect so many people at once, and most of the people being admitted were displaying similar extreme symptoms.
The newly admitted patients (prior to being heavily medicated) would be yelling about hearing God or other voices, felt like they were melting into the floor, thought their bodies were going to vibrate apart, cried that the people of the world need to "wake up", yelled the world was changing, and said they didn't want to die but knew they had to. How is this possible that NONE of the staff in the hospitals saw the common thread?! How come the therapy group sessions they had to attend did not discuss any of these common issues and instead completely ignored them and dove into what were their stress factors in their lives. Why wouldn't the staff of the hospitals discuss these common symptoms? So many people experiencing these same issues and when I asked the staff about it they just shrugged their shoulders?! And the things the patients were saying were not common symptoms among people generally admitted into a psychiatric ward in the past.
I could go on and on about this, but at this point I will end this little real-life story with a little advice....
If you or anyone you know is going through any of the above issues, please know you are NOT alone!!!! There is a grand awakening taking place. Find someone who believes you to talk to. There are people out there who WILL believe you... know completely believe you are hearing voices and you are NOT crazy! There are people who will believe you that your body IS vibrating. Yes, you are not alone, you are not crazy, it WILL be ok. Find someone to talk to who believes you.
